Guys, it’s time to cheer up for the Indian Women Cricket team. Indian Captain Mithali Raj scripted history by becoming the first player to cross 6000 runs in the history of Women’s ODI during the ICC World Cup match against Australia in Bristol.
Mithali broke the record of England’s Charlotte Edwards who scored 5992 runs by scoring 69 runs from 114 balls in the match. The Indian skipper now has 6028 runs in 181 ODIs at an average of 51.37. She started off her tournament in grand style as she created a world record by smashing seven consecutive fifty-plus scores, making her the first woman player to achieve the feat.
The Indian team now have two current world record holders with pacer Jhulan Goswami being the leading wicket taker in 50-overs cricket.
As soon as Mithali reached the feat, many celebs congratulated her. It has been a great day for Women Cricket Team. Mithali is no-doubt the best women cricketer of India. Her devotion and contribution to Indian Cricket are known to everyone. But my point is Will she be remembered for years as the Legend “Sachin Tendulkar”?

It’s true, time is changing and people are also viewing Women’s Cricket with as much interest as they watch Men’s Cricket, but the popularity of men cricketers are much higher than that of women.
Ask a cricket fan the names of all the men cricketers, he would definitely speak up all the names in one-go, but when it comes to women cricketers he would hardly remember 2 or 3 names. Why this difference?
Why are the male cricketers made the Brand Ambassadors of different products while the women are hardly seen in any ads?
Everyone knows about Yuvraj Singh scoring 6 sixes in 6 balls in an over, but do people know the women cricketer who achieved the same glory. She is Mithali Raj.
I have seen some parents scolding their small girls when they hold a bat and ball and play with their brothers, it is because they think there is no future for girls in cricket and they won’t bring the same fame and money as their male counterparts.
Guys we all need to change our mindset and also our societies and it should start from the grass root level i.e. our home.
A small change can indeed make a big difference.
