Hookah – more toxic hydrocarbons than Cigarettes

To cope with a stressful life-style people adopt different media They smoke, drink and take various drugs to reduce their anxiety. As a result industry like hookah smoking is growing significantly. But it is often mistaken that hookah is healthier than cigarette and also it doesn’t contain nicotine and other toxic products. Which is a common misconception that leads to make the hookah smoking an innocent act.


But it is actually more dangerous than cigarettes and has greater exposure to carbon dioxide. In hookah device the tobacco burns with the help of charcoal. The Charcoal is separated from tobacco by perforated aluminum foil and the user drags the smoke through a pipe.


The intake of Hokkah smoke is comparatively higher as it requires a larger drag effort than cigarette. It has cardio-respiratory toxicants and volatile compounds. . It also contains heavy metal like nickel, lead, cadmium that can injure the blood vessels and brain. Its use is also associated with decreased lung function and heart diseases, and it can have a negative effect on fertility. The smokers are at an increased risk for lung cancer, mouth cancer. Water-cooled smoke is less harsh on delicate lung tissue.

An average hookah bowl contains as much nicotine as a pack of 20 cigarettes. The smoke has about six times more carbon monoxide and 46 times more tar.

In short-term use heart rate increases by 6 to 13 beats per minutes. Systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure increase by 3 to 16 mm/hg and 2 to 14 mm/hg respectively. In long-term use it enhances the risk of heart attack and different cancers as we have mentioned earlier.

So that’s all about the real description of cons of usages of hookah. Always beware of what you are inhaling and take care of your health.
